The lined jacket is characterized by an outside of brown satin, a lining of blue hand-woven cloth and round wrap-around collar. The lapel and hemline are edged with blue cloth and brocade lace. The blue cloth is decorated with flowers, butterflies and an S-shaped design through appliqué, plain, net and nails embroidery techniques. The brocade is embroidered with pomegranates and the Buddha’s hand. The cuffs are edged with blue silk embroidered with peonies and Chinese Huamei (a thrush). The hemline distinctively features both left-and-right as well as front-and-back slits.
With its unique style, this lined jacket shows a variety of tapestry and embroidery techniques and workmanship, and is a valuable physical object for the study of Miao minority group garments of the Qing Dynasty.
