This porcelain figurine is of light yellow roughcast, covered entirely with green glaze. The glaze has a tinge of blueness in it, fairly bright, but unfortunately much of the glaze has peeled off. This naked figurine seems to be a sculpture of health and beauty. There is a through hole in its back for tying strings, so this is likely a small toy.

This porcelain figurine, with fine roughcast and good combination of roughcast and glaze, is exquisitely made and well preserved. The image is that of a foreigner, thus making it a rare actual object for the study of exchanges between China and foreign countries.

Naked human sculptures and figurines in China appeared first in the Han Dynasty. They were indirectly derived from Greek and Roman naked stone sculptures, with more or less identical artistic composition. But once spread to China, it changed into a unique artistic expression. Therefore, we can regard the artistic elements of this figurine as the result of the exchange between China and the West.
