The shield, a piece of defensive equipment made of rattan, wood or leather in the State of Chu, could deflect arrows, spears and swords. This shield, made of double-layer ox hide, is decorated with designs of dragon, phoenix and clouds vividly painted in yellow ochre lacquer.
